Satoshi's Daemon Galloping

Written by Jesse — Saturday, 01 October 2011

Satoshi's Daemon galloped on the race track for the first time today. Our trainer put blinkers on her, which limits her peripheral vision and forces her to focus on what is in front of her. This is not uncommon.

Young horses in training tend to throw their heads up and want to look around, which is not productive when training or racing. As she matures and progresses, she may not require blinkers.

The exercise rider also used the whip to encourage her slightly. The whip is a teaching tool in training, and its use will diminish as she learns to respond to verbal and rider body language commands.

She is ahead of where we anticipated she would be at this point, but the key above all is to stay healthy. Pushing too hard too fast could delay her first race.

She will continue training at Traders Rest FarmTraders Rest Farm, progressing nicely and taking everything in stride.

Breaking in

Written by Administrator — Tuesday, 20 September 2011

After the first 45 days of training, she will be fully broken and galloping. We would then get in 3–5 works spaced 7–10 days apart.

If all goes well, she should be ready to race in late January or early February.
